CINCINNATI, OH – North American Properties honored Durable Slate this week for its restoration work on Our Lady of Peace Chapel, located on Xavier University campus.
Jerry Ayers, of North American Properties, bestowed a plaque on the field personnel and administrative staff who were involved in the chapel’s restoration, which included re-installed slate and new copper flashings, gutters and downspouts.
“It’s just a blessing that we had the right people. It really turned out beautiful,” Ayers said. “It’s you guys who make all the difference in the world.
The chapel’s restoration won a regional and two national awards for beautiful buildings. The chapel was donated to Xavier University on behalf of The Williams Family, which owns North American Properties.
Durable Slate Estimator Adam Hicks was involved in the initial evaluation of the chapel and the logistics involved in preserving the original slate of the building.
“It was a big deal for us to work on it. To be part of its history is humbling,” Hicks said.
Several other contractors were involved in restoring the chapel’s original interior wood trim and stained-glass windows. The historic building currently sits on the college campus near Dana Avenue.
Durable Slate Chief Operations Officer Gary Howes, among other staff members, met with Ayers to receive the award.
“The chapel is simply amazing. And that’s the beauty of restoration,” Howes said. “You can bring a building back to life, which is what makes this job so rewarding.”
