The Durable Restoration Company is adding to its long list of prominent projects it has undertaken. This project is expected to take several months and is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2018.
Built in 1889, the building that houses St. James Episcopal Church has long been an icon to Baton Rouge residents. Loaded with history, this Gothic Style church was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The interior design features a traditional cruciform layout.
The Durable Restoration Company’s work will consist of several areas of restoration. Restoration will be done on the window surrounds, and custom storm windows will be added to protect the priceless stained glass windows from weather. Another major restoration is a full rake out and repoint of the church. Around 50 years ago, the church was repointed with a Portland cement. This was not letting the church properly “breathe”. Durable Restoration will be repointing with custom colored historic lime mortar, in order to not only ensure structural stability, but to restore historic accuracy to the building.
